Walter G. Shifrin, P.E. Walter is a Registered Professional Engineer in several states, including Missouri and Illinois, with over 40 years of experience in the environmental field. During his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at Cambridge, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's Degree in Sanitary Engineering, along with many academic honors. Soon after graduating from MIT, Walter worked in Kansas City, Missouri for the U.S. Public Health Service. After leaving his position there in 1958, Walter returned to St. Louis and served as a Principle Associate responsible for project development and execution for the firm of Horner & Shifrin, Inc. until 1969. That year he was given the opportunity to open an office in St. Louis for Chicago-based Consoer, Townsend & Associates, Inc. under the title of St. Louis Regional Manager. In 1972, he became a partner in the firm and was named Senior Vice President. Walter managed all local operations and at the beginning of 1976 became responsible for international marketing and project management. While with the firm, he worked as Principle-in-Charge of design and construction services for many wastewater treatment plants domestically and abroad, including design and construction services for a multi-million dollar secondary treatment plant for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. Walter left Consoer, Townsend & Associates, Inc in 1981 to join the staff of Denver, Colorado based CH2M-Hill, Inc. as their St. Louis Area Manager, responsible for the quality of projects in a 3-state area. He was also chosen to represent the company in national technical and professional organizations. It was while he with CH2M-Hill, Inc. that Walter managed the proposed pipeline designed to alleviate critical water shortages in the St. Peters and St. Charles region of Missouri. This project was brought to early completion and 10% under the proposed budget. Finally, Walter was able to establish Shifrin & Associates, Inc. in 1988. Among the many projects completed to date, Walter has directed removal of underground storage tanks and remediation of contaminated soil/groundwater and subsequent closure reports in accordance with state requirements for over one hundred (100) sites in Missouri and Illinois. He has also provided expert witness testimony in many cases. Over the years Walter has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that allows him to give the best services possible.
